Are you a creative enthusiast and would like to try your hand at upholstery? Fellow upholsterer Robin and I have teamed up to offer various upholstery courses. At the moment, we run a course for a deep-buttoned footstool and a course for a flat top footstool.  These courses are a great opportunity to learn some upholstery skills! It is also a lovely experience to share with friends or family members.

Gillian

"Fantastic 2 days of learning new skills and to go home with a professionally made piece of furniture an added bonus. I would 100% recommend this course."

Rhiannon

"Janneke and Robin were great teachers with their friendly and patient approach. I am delighted with the end result of the completed footstool and honestly can't believe I have managed to make an item that looks so professional."

Janette

"Janneke- thank you so much for today. I am so pleased with how the stool turned out. You were more than generous with your time, patience and sharing of your knowledge and experience."

Footstool

The footstool frame is made by local carpenter Ray from Gold Square Designs. It is a solid piece of furniture! The sizes are 90cm long and 50 cm wide.

Materials and Fabric

All the materials and tools you need will be provided, including the footstool frame and legs.

You will need to bring 2 metres of upholstery fabric, ideally a fire retardant fabric, but it should be pliable enough to make the pleats.

If you would like to use a contrasting fabric for the piping and buttons, you will need 1.5 metres for your top fabric, and 0.5 metres for piping and buttons.

What to expect

In our fully equipped workshop, we will guide you through your project from start to finish. The classes are small, so you will get plenty of guidance. The pace will be high, but we make sure there is also some time for a cuppa, chat and lunch.

What you will learn

In both foostool courses you will learn some foundational skills for upholstery.
